This sounds pretty cool, but do you ever run into issues with the AI telling you things that aren't true? How would you identify them?

I haven’t yet.

I think that between AI getting much better and the fact I am getting it to write about pretty established things in a pretty simple way means that it is unlikely to hallucinate.

The only mistake I’ve caught so far was in its description of the Vietnam war it mentioned the 39th parallel as the dividing line (I believe it’s the 17th). I only caught it because it ALSO said the 38th parallel in a different part of the same answer. No idea where those numbers came from. I thought maybe it was confusing it with another country but the other big parallel divide is canada-US which is the 49th parallel.

Anyway. I caught it too late and now I need to re-teach Everest. Which is extra hard vs not teaching her at all

Hm... I was just doing some more research and I realized what I thought it had done wrong, it had actually done right. Vietnam is definitely divided at the 17th parallel. But the 39th is also correct -- just for a different war (the Korean War). I think I just mixed up which war I was working with. So the error is MINE not the AI's. It did make a mistake in mentioning the 38th parallel once (I THINK. But at this point it would not surprise me if that is somehow my fault as well....)
